THE MITCHELL SPORTS 408 BLACK VERSION

δ.1.1 - THE FOUR NUMBERS SERIAL .

MAJOR CHANGES : 

83671 - Drive Gear.

A new Drive Gear is designed. Although the number of teeth is considerably reduced -compared to the former Gleason cut version-  an interesting "diamond cut" will allow to achieve a high ratio for this new 408. Processed in Brass.

83678 - Pinion Gear.

The number of Pinion Gear's teeth is obviously reduced too. The teeth are quite thin at their extremity. This doesn't alter the all mechanism but might fragilise a bit the gearing.

83680 - Housing.

The Housing is slightly modified. The fixation system of the Pinion gear is moved to the exact normal of the pinion axis.

The manufacture identification :

"FL" in a circle, number 21 next to it.

The trip Lever Trigger (which was until then casted on the housing) is milled and replaced by a steel plate trigger riveted to the housing.

A new color chart is used. All the ultra-light series are painted in black. The name written on the side of the housing remains same but is now painted in gold.

82627 - Handle Complete.

The handle is fully reshaped. The shank, and the knob are scared together. The knob is designed symmetrically so as to be ambidextrous. 

83679 - Rotor (complete).

The color chart is applied to the rotor. It is painted in black. The specificities of the reel are printed in gold lettering around it, and underlined in red.

83670 - Side Plate (complete)

A new black plastic Side Plate is casted to fit to the Housing. The side plate screw is directly screwed to it. (The useless  "C" lock is abandoned). 

"MITCHELL" / "BALL BEARING" / "HIGH SPEED" is printed in Gold lettering on the side plate.

83669 - Side Plate Screw.

The Side Plate Screw is directly fixed to the Side Plate. The Thread of the original screw is thus modified. The screw is finished in Black.

81279 - Counterweight.

Although the counterweight reference hasn't been changed, the counterweight is modified to balance the new TYPE 4 Pick-Up.

81281 - Counterweight Screw. 

The Counterweight Screw is painted full black.

82376 - Hex Nut.

The Hex Nut is made out of brass.

81294 - Trip Lever Spring.

The trip Lever Spring is made in a brass looking steel.

81293 - Trip Lever Screw.

The Trip Lever Screw is painted full black.

81289 - Axle.

The spool seat is casted in a black plastic.

81307 - Slide Lock.

The slide lock is made in a brass looking steel.

83510 - Pinion Gear Screw.

The Pinion Gear Screw is shortened to fit the fixation system.

PICK UP TYPE 4

The last bail Type is  mounted on these models. It consists of the following components : 

82900 - Bail Screw#2.

82904 - Bail Foot#2.

83419 - Bail Arm.

82899 - Bail Screw#1.

83382 - Line Guide.

83395 - 

83417 - Bail Foot#1.

83384 - Line Guide Screw.

δ.1.2 - THE LETTERED SERIAL

MAJOR CHANGES.

81276 - Drive Gear Washer.

An additional brass Drive Gear Washer is added to the existing one.

81308 - Slide.

The Slide is casted in a black plastic.

81307 - Slide Lock.

The Slide Lock is divided in two separate pins.

82901 - Side Plate Screw.

The side plate screw has a chrome finish.

82627 - Handle Shank (complete).

The handle shank is completely demoutable.

81044 - Handle Knob Screw.

The handle knob screw is back in the handle design.

82850 - Handle Knob.

The handle knob is

δ.1.3 - THE NO-SERIAL.

MAJOR CHANGES.

83680 - Housing.

A new Housing mold is used.

The manufacture identification is changed, The "FL" inscription in a circle isn't used anymore. A mere number is casted next to axle post. "2". 

A trip lever protrusion trigger is casted on the housing.

83678 - Pinion Gear.

One ball bearing ring is removed from the Pinion Gear. The Pinion arbor is extruded to balance this modification. The arbor is made out of brass.

81289 - Axle.

The axle shaft is made out of brass.

NUMERATION.

No Serial.

Inscription under the foot : "FRANCE".

δ.2 - THE MADE IN TAIWAN.

MAJOR CHANGES.

The production has been relocated to TAIWAN. Almost all the parts are processed differently. Some minor changes are resulting, such as modification of the molds or of finishes.

83680 - Housing.

A new mold is made. The Manufacture Identification indicates CY in a circle.

The "FRANCE" inscription on the Foot is removed. "MITCHELL TAIWAN" is now casted.

The Housings of the 308 and the 408 are same. The Mitchell 408 dust cap has disappeared. 

83679 - Rotor (complete).

As for the housing, A similar Rotor is used for the 308 and the 408. 

The inscriptions "MADE IN FRANCE 5" and "US.PATENT 2 726 052" are erased. the Specifications printed around the Rotor indicates Ratio 5:1, although the 5,5:1 ratio Gearings are still. used.

A number "1" is casted inside the rotor as a manufacture ID.

83670 - Side Plate (complete).

The Side Plate mounted on this 408 is a 308's one, The "HIGH SPEED" inscription is erased.

81308 - Slide.

The Slide Mold is modified. The casting has lost in quality.

81271 - Anti-Reverese Dog.

The finish of the Anti-Reverse Dog is gun smoked.

81271 - Anti-Reverse Dog Spring.

The Anti-Reverse Dog Spring is straight and processed in a thiner diameter brown iron string.

81276 - Drive Gear Washer.

The Drive Gear Washer has a gun smoked finish.

83678 - Pinion Gear.

The Pinion Gear arbor is black.

xxxx - Pinion Gear Spacer

Two thin Pinion Gear spacers are added.

811296 - Trip Lever.

The Trip Lever is plain (The two holes are not drilled anymore). Matt unsmoked finish.

81294 - Trip Lever Spring.

The Trip Lever Spring is made out of a thicker iron string.

81281 - Counterweight Screw.

The black Counterweight Screw has a Phillips head.

83382 - Line Guide.

The Inside Line Guide washer is black.

81279 - Counterweight.

The Counterweight has no manufacture identification anymore.

No Serial.

Inscription under the Foot : "MITCHELL TAIWAN".
