SIDE PLATE SCREW
1 - The chrome.

OBSERVATION :
First Side Plate Screw produced for the Ultra-light series. This screw was mounted on the very early Mitchell 308 and 358. The slot is curved an wide. It was designed to be manipulate easily with a 1 franc coin - It is ironically a bit tricky to unscrew it with a screw driver...
The chrome plated cover is relatively strong.

2 - The red Duralumin.
REFERENCE : 81324.
OBSERVATION : This screw is shape in the same way as the original. Its Mae out of aluminum and finished with a re duralumin coat. This red screw became quickly one the main attributes of the Mitchell 408.

2 - The Chrome again.
REFERENCE : 81304.
OBSERVATION :
The mitchell 408 red screw is replaced with its Chrome equivalent 81304. This might be considered as a primary offense made to the image of the reel. The midnight-blue color is going to last a bit longer but will also resign some years after.

3 - The black.
REFERENCE : 83669.
OBSERVATION :
The last versions of the 408 (Black color with golden raised name) are also differentiated from the the 308s by the Side Plates Screws color. The 408 ones have a mat black coat, whereas the 308 ones remains chromed, with a light gun smoke tone.
The shape of the screw thread is a bit different from the former side Plate screw. As the Side Plates are now caste in plastic, the screw doesn't to be maintain to it wit the "C"lock.

5 - The Gunsmoke.

OBSERVATION :
The very last version of the Mitchell 408 was produced in TAIWAN. Many of its parts were taken from the Mitchell 308. Thus, the black screw disappeared and was replaced with the gunmsoked 308 one.
