LOCK NUT

1 - Spanner Axle Nut.

REFERENCE : 81298.

OBSERVATION :

IThis is the first version that Mitchell produced for the 308. It hasn't been notice on other ultralight reels. This nut requires a specific tool to take the pinion gear and rotor apart. It will be quickly replace with a standard hexagonal lock nut.

RECORDS : Early 308.

2 - Flat Hex Nut.

REFERENCE : 81298.

OBSERVATION : 

This Hex nut was the most common one used on the 308 series. The top is rounded, the bottom flat. It was made to fix the early versions of the pinion gears ( 31322 - 408 & 358 ; 81303 308 & 309 ; 81323 - 409).

Two other parts were used for the assembly :  the D-washers 81302 ("D"spacer) & 181299 (Lock Nut washer).

3 - Symmetrical Hex Nut.

REFERENCE : 82376.

OBSERVATION : 

The Pinion Gear is modified in May 1976 for all the models of the 308 series (82424 - 308 & 309 ; 82454 - 358 & 408 ; 82426 - 409). It is preset in order to simplify its assembly to the rotor. The "D"washers are no longer required. The bottom of the Hex Nut is rounded in the same way as its top, in order to conform this modification.

4 - Brass Hex Nut.

REFERENCE : 82376.

OBSERVATION :

The shape remains same but the Hex Nut is now Made out of Brass.

This modification concerns all the version distributed by Mitchell Sports.
