HANDLE SHANK
1 - The Original.
REFERENCE : 81316 - 123 (LH : 81317 - 123L).
OBSERVATION : This handle has been designed to fit the Fast retrieve Mitchell 408. The sticker Hi-speed Makes a difference with the other Ultra-light models. (Although the 358 has the same gearing as the 408, it wasn't mentioned on the handle).
On the very early versions of the 408, the Hi-speed sticker is glued on a flat surface, A tiny recess has then been made probably to protect the sticker a bit better.

2 - Slot.

OBSERVATION :
Once the Dust cap has been introduced in the 408 design, the handle was changed a bit.
The bottom knot thread is upgraded (The former one was M4, the new released become M5). This modification is visible at the bottom of the handle : The hole diameter in the knob in increased (former : 5mn ; new : 5,9mm). A slot is made in it.

3 - Double notches.
REFERENCE : 81316 (LH : 81317).
OBSERVATION :
The single sided latch locking the rotation of the Handle Shank (allowing it to open an close) is changed for a double sided one.
The extremity of the shank is shrinked.
This modification is almost simultaneous to another one :
the handle spacer is punched which allows it to be screwed to the handle thread. This permits to secure the handle and the dust cap together.

4 - Sky-blue version.
REFERENCE : 82684 (LH : 82685).
OBSERVATION :
The design of the handle is modified once the Garcia mitchell 408 midnight-blue turns sky-blue.
The handle amplitude is same. The bottom knot is re-shaped and the sticker of the sticker tuned to the one of the reel.

5 - Grey knob.

OBSERVATION :
The bottom knot isn't processed in aluminum anymore, but casted in a grey color plastic.
The "high speed" sticker is abandoned.
This handle version has probably been mounted on on single version of the MITCHELL 408, the sky-blue Browning period.

6 - Nostalgy.

OBSERVATION :
Same handle as the one described in part 4. Mounted on the BROWNING MITCHLL 408 Midnight blue color.

7 - Black knob.
REFERENCE : 82627.
OBSERVATION :
This last version of the hanse shank is a bit longer than its predecessors. This might make the use f the reel more comfortable, but it weakens the shank, which has a tendency to bend under the effort.
The bottom knot is cast in a black plastic material. This shank is fully dismountable.
On some version, the Handle Know is riveted directly to the Handle Shank
(for instance the 0211 listed in the gallery).
